| Holiday and work in Australia | |
A multitude of temporary visas exist to allow you to spend some vacation time in Australia for either sightseeing, visiting friends and family or quick trips for business purposes.
A number of these visas can be arranged through your regular travel agent. A lot can be applied for and approved via the internet.
If a short-term visit is all you need then one of the short stay visas would be the most appropriate as they allow you up to three months during which to enter Australia, fulfil your plans and then depart.
Should you require a longer period, then temporary visas with stays of up to twelve months or more are available.
Working holiday visas are available to a wide sector of nationalities including the UK, Canada, Japan, Republic of Ireland, Republic of Korea, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, France, Italy, and Taiwan to name just a selection.
You will need to be between 18 & 30 and intend to travel whilst supplementing your finances by casual employment of up to 3 months at a time with any one employer.
These visas are only approved once. This visa allows you to travel freely to and from Australia for a 12 month period for your first entry date. From 1 November 2005, Working Holiday Makers who have worked in an area of 'specified work' in regional Australia for a minimum of three months while on their first working holiday visa, will be eligible to apply for a second Working Holiday visa and stay for a further 12 months.
|
Work and Holiday visas are currently available to tertiary educated applicants from Chile, Malaysia, Thailand, Turkey and the USA (minimum high school graduate level for US applicants).
Arrangements are currently being finalised with Bangladesh and Indonesia with other countries likely to be introduced in the future.
Criteria for this type of visa are similar to those of the working holiday visa subclass but there are subtle differences.
|
All visa subclasses require the applicant and their family members to meet what is known as basic requirements.
These usually relate to age, health, character and English language ability.
If you do not satisfy the basic requirements that relate to the subclass of visa you are applying for then you have no prospects of securing a visa to permit you to enter Australia.
Your previous immigration history is taken into account when deciding to approve or deny an application. So when entering and remaining in Australia you must ensure that you abide by the conditions and guidelines that relate to your current visa or you put at risk any future prospects you may have to migrate.
