| Work and live in Australia | |
The Australian Government has a concentrated focus on attracting skilled workers to Australia. The Government is mindful of the need to ensure that the country does not suffer shortages in certain skilled occupations and these visa subclasses are regularly amended to focus on those areas of greatest demand.
There are a number of options available to you if you are contemplating living and working in Australia. Of course, if you are thinking about setting up a business in Australia then you will need to consider your options under the business visas category.
|
Australian Immigration Advisors is an important division of the law firm, Hall Payne Lawyers, a practice with offices throughout Queensland, including Brisbane City, the Gold Coast, and Rockhampton (the most significant economic hub of Central Queensland).
Some of the different types of skilled visa subclasses include:
|
| Skilled independent. This subclass will suit recent international student graduates in Australia or the skilled worker who can satisfy the current pass mark on the applicable points test. To qualify for this category, you must satisfy the basic requirements of the visa as well as pass the Government’s eligibility assessment via the points test. | |
Skilled Sponsored (family). This subclass will suit the skilled worker or recent international student graduate who can arrange sponsorship by a relative already living in Australia. Other criteria must be met including age and skill level. The pass mark for this type of skilled visa is substantially lower.
Skilled Sponsored (State/Territory Govt). This subclass will suit the skilled worker or recent international student graduate who can arrange sponsorship by a State or Territory Government. Each State or Territory has its own criteria for sponsorship. Again, the pass mark for the points test on this visa type is substantially lower.
Skilled Graduate. This subclass will suit the recent international student graduate who requires additional points in order to pass the points test to qualify under one of the permanent visa subclasses. This temporary visa given them a period of time whereby they can gain relevant experience or improve on their English language ability to increase their point allocation.
Skilled Regional Sponsored. A provisional subclass of visa is available for recent international student graduates and some temporary visa holders who can satisfy a lower pass mark and are sponsored by a relative who lives in a designated area or by the State/Territory Govt. After abiding by the relevant conditions of this visa they may then be eligible for a permanent visa under regional sponsorship.
Sponsored (employer). This subclass of visa enables migrants to gain sponsorship via what is known as Employer Nomination Scheme. This allows Australian employers to recruit people from overseas once it is determined that the particular job cannot be met from existing job seekers in Australia. If the job happens to be located outside the main population areas (that is, in less populated spots, such as Central Queensland, for example) then the employer may be able to recruit the migrant under the more relaxed Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme.
Distinguished talent. If the Government is satisfied that you can provide special talents of benefit to Australia (in areas such as sport, music or the arts) and such talent would be distinguished by the international community as being of high calibre, then this may indeed be a subclass of visa that is best suited to you. |
|
All visa subclasses require the applicant and their family members to meet what is known as basic requirements.
These usually relate to age, health, character and English language ability.
If you do not satisfy the basic requirements that relate to the subclass of visa you are applying for then you have no prospects of securing a visa to permit you to enter Australia.
Your previous immigration history is taken into account when deciding to approve or deny an application. So when entering and remaining in Australia you must ensure that you abide by the conditions and guidelines that relate to your current visa or you put at risk any future prospects you may have to migrate.
